OUR Sunday Service

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." Colossians 3:16

You're Invited!

Church of the Canyons, known as COC, gathers on Sunday mornings to worship God through praise, prayer, and Bible study. We treasure the Bible because it is the very word of God, given to guide and guard us. It has the power to transform lives! God’s word is the centerpiece for all instruction in every setting and age group.

We center our Sunday worship service around two elements: the worship of God in His glory and the exposition of His inerrant word. We do this by singing a blend of songs from different centuries and studying the Bible verse by verse.

From Sunday school to Children’s Ministry to our main worship gathering, here’s what a typical Sunday looks like.

Biblical Preaching

Our senior pastor, Kris Ullman, teaches regularly, and other pastors/leaders preach in his absence. We want to hear from God's word every Sunday, so the sermons are always based on a passage, or passages, in the Bible (1 Timothy 4:13; 2 Timothy 3:16, 4:2). The messages are expositional in nature—they explain the Scripture and help you apply it to your life. You can listen to past sermons online if you'd like to get a feel for the preaching or catch up on the current series.

God-Exalting Music

The music ministry at Church of the Canyons leads the corporate gathering of the congregation in worship of the triune God—Father, Son, Holy Spirit—that are both theologically rich and musically excellent, to the end that Christ and His word are clearly displayed. The congregation's own voices are a central part of the music's sound, so they can obey God's command to encourage one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19).

Children and Nursery

We are commanded in the Bible to instruct our children in the ways of the Lord (Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Proverbs 22:6; Matthew 19:13-15). We have something for children of all ages. The entire family, from nursery to grandparents, can come at 9:00am before the worship service for Family Sunday School

Then, during the service, children from birth through pre-K can stay in our nursery, freeing their parents and siblings to focus on the service. Children in kindergarten through 6th grade stay with their parents to worship together until they are dismissed for Sunday school. They will meet their teacher in the back of the room and go to their own class with a special lesson just for them.

Only loving, kind, and background-checked workers oversee the care, safety, and teaching of your child. The first time you leave your child in the nursery or send them to Sunday school, you will need to register. We use an industry-standard child check-in system from Planning Center Online to make sure we know you and your child.

Church Family

Community Life

In addition to praise, worship, and Bible study, Sunday services are our church's family gathering. We love to celebrate, encourage, and lift up our brothers and sisters in Christ (John 13:35; Galatians 6:2; 1 Thessalonians 2:8). We joyfully announce births, weddings, and significant anniversaries. We pray for specific needs in the church, present ministry opportunities, and share updates from our missionaries. We sometimes will set aside time to hear testimonies about what God is doing in a member's life.

Once per month, we share communion together. As Jesus commands, we partake in the bread and cup (individual servings of juice and gluten-free cracker) to remember His death together with all true Christians (Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:26-29).

A couple of times a year, we will have a believer's baptism at the end of a service. Baptism is an outward sign that someone has already submitted to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It is a step of obedience to the commandment that believers should be baptized (Matthew 28:18-20). Baptism is a symbol of dying to our sin, being buried with Christ, and rising to new life.
