In August 2019 we commissioned our Pastor Search Team. They were nominated by the members of COC and selected by the board of elders.

Dan Davis
  • Attending COC Since: 2009

  • Occupation: High School Science Teacher

Just after Dan met Annalee, his wife who has been attending for 18 years, he joined Church of the Canyons. That was 10 years ago. Dan’s leadership has been seen in the College and Career Ministry, as the deacon of the Fellowship Ministry, and co-leading a men’s group. Dan is a man whose life matches his theology. He graduated from The Master’s University with a Master’s degree in Education this past year. Dan and Annalee have two daughters, Lucy who just turned three, and Molly Tiger, who passed away in 2018 just shy of three months.

Dan is a science teacher at Canyon High School and he is beloved by his students.

Matt Davis

Since coming to Church of the Canyons in 2008, Matt has served in the Youth Ministry, Antioch Missions Ministry, as the Deacon of the Facility Maintenance Ministry, and is currently on the board of elders. Matt can also be found teaching in various ministries around our church including Community Groups, adult Sunday school, and New Member’s Class. As a younger man, he was discipled by faithful men at Church of the Canyons and desires to continue by discipling young men in how to study and teach the Bible. Matt and his wife Kristi have been married for 10 years and have four children: Mackenzie, Hudson, Campbell, and Reese.

Matt has worked full-time in the landscape industry since he graduated from The Master’s University in 2009.

Jan Gassman

  • Occupation: Retired Composer/Arranger in Music Industry

The Sunday after 9/11 was the Gassman's first Sunday at Church of the Canyons, and they found their home. Jan’s husband, Clark, passed away just weeks before their 51st wedding anniversary. Jan’s service has not slowed down at all in her retirement. She teaches two Bible studies a week and has been doing so for 38 years. She is a member of our Antioch Missions Team, Women’s Ministry, and the Benevolence Committee. She stuffs and folds our bulletins and prepares our communion table elements.

Clark and Jan were in the recording industry, as a composer and arranger. Jan copied all of Clark’s music, and she also sang and played the violin. Since retirement, her two daughters, six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and her church family keep her busy. Jan loves the Lord and wants to devote the rest of her life to serving Him on this earth.

Mike Jackson

A gift to our church musically, Mike has been attending Church of the Canyons since 2014. Being a part of our Worship Ministry, and fulfilling our music internship, Mike has grown markedly. After his internship, Mike joined the Youth Ministry and led the music team for the high school group. You can find Mike in Faithbuilders (adult Sunday school) and leading music on Sunday mornings.

Mike graduated from The Master’s University in 2016 and is working as a senior admissions counselor for the institution, helping to enroll and recruit the incoming classes of students. He is currently studying for his MCAT exam and desires to enroll in medical school to become a physician.

Chip Kettering

  • Occupation: Creative Director in Advertising

After 36 years of attending Church of the Canyons, Chip is still going strong. With the support of his wife, Karen, he has served in a variety of roles over the years. Chip has served as the deacon of Ushers and Greeters Ministry, as an AWANA leader, and has taught adult Sunday school classes. The Ketterings see their house as a gift and are so generous to open their home whenever a meeting spot is needed. It is the College and Career Ministry’s (CORE) meeting spot on Tuesday evenings.

Chip was a creative director in advertising for 35 years and continues to work in that field from home. He uses this gift by helping Church of the Canyons with graphics and design for our website. Chip and Karen have two grown children, Loren and Travis.

Valerie Moreno

  • Occupation: Homeschool Mom, Tutor & Editor

The Morenos have been attending Church of the Canyons since 2014. Eddie and Valerie have two sons, Ezekiel and James. Valerie has served our church faithfully over the years by teaching children’s Sunday school, as AWANA and VBS secretary, Women’s Ministry, and Community Groups. She homeschools James and tutors other students. Her Language Arts and English background led her to be an editor for Kress Biblical Resources for a time. She continues to edit Bible study guides for other churches.

The Morenos seek to grow as a family in worshiping, loving, obeying the Lord, and treasuring Him above all.

Chris Rojas

  • Ministries: AWANA, Elder Board, VBS, Youth Group
  • Occupation: Construction Contractor

One of our elders, Chris, can always be found serving people. Whether it is leading children in AWANA alongside his wife, Kelly, and children Christian, Mason, and foster son, Eric, or using his construction background, he is reliable and hardworking. The Rojas family has been attending Church of the Canyons since 2004. In recent years, Chris has been involved in the Youth Ministry and served as a 2-6 grade Sunday school teacher, AWANA Sparks director, and a VBS volunteer.

While working at Airbest Heating & Air Conditioning, he owns and operates Higher Standards Construction Company.
